There is no application fee when applying to NMMI. It is completely free of charge to apply to our school.

Yes, here at NMMI all applicants are eligible for scholarships.

International students are eligible for two scholarships: The Merit Scholarship and the Incentive Scholarship.

NMMI accepts a wide variety of English Proficiency test. Listed below are the test accepted and the minimum score.

NMMI offers a semester-long English Language and Culture Program – ELCP for those students who need to improve their language proficiency. They will be fully immersed in the Corps of Cadets and will have at least four(4) English classes a day, besides leadership, and mathematics class.

At NMMI, the high school program is a college preparatory course of study. We do not offer AP courses, although qualified students may be permitted to take college courses while in high school. Once they graduate from HS, they will have two transcripts – one for the HS program and another one for the college courses taken.

NMMI currently is home to students form over 37 different countries and is happy to accept students from any country. All students are welcome here.

A Junior College is a 2-year post-secondary (after high school – higher education) program. NMMI Junior College grants students an Associates of Arts or an Associates of Science degree upon graduation from either program.

No, only 14% of our cadets go on to further their career in the military. NMMI offers a structured and disciplined environment for each one of our cadets to achieve their full potential. NMMI provides leadership training and development to all cadets.

Once you are accepted to NMMI you will receive an international questionnaire. You will have to fill that out and return it. Once it is returned along with proof of financials, we will issue the I-20.

As a foreign student, you are required to obtain an F-1 student visa to attend NMMI. You will receive an I-20 from the international department. The I-20 form, is needed in order to make a visa appointment with the closest U.S. Embassy/ Consulate to apply for your student visa. You will need to print it and sign it. A SEVIS fee payment must be made prior to your visa appointment.

After you pay the SEVIS fee, (I-901 Fee) you may apply at a U.S. Embassy or Consulate for a student visa – F-1. You must present the Form I-20 to the consular office when you attend your visa interview.

For any breaks throughout the semester, such as Christmas break or Spring break- our campus closes and will remain closed for the duration of the break.

All cadets, including international cadets, have to depart the campus for the break(s).

As a new international cadet at NMMI, you will attend an International Orientation where you will learn more about life at NMMI and what to expect as an International Student.

Beyond academic instruction and leadership development, you can expect great support from NMMI’s team.

  • One-on-one academic advising from our team of advisors who will support you and guide you throughout your time at NMMI.
  • One-on-one immigration advising from our International Center advisors who can answer your questions and help you to understand your student status in the U.S., from maintaining your visa, to travel regulations, OPT and more.

International students will find they have a variety of support services, such as cultural activities to foster international students’ adjustment to and competence in participating in American life, as well as services such as airport pick-ups, a quiet place to study, support in all life-related areas at NMMI. We are here to welcome you and assist you in many different areas of your journey as a cadet at NMMI.

Where is NMMI?

New Mexico Military Institute (NMMI) is a public military junior college and high school in Roswell, New Mexico. Founded in 1891, NMMI operates under the auspices of the State of New Mexico, under a dedicated Board of Regents that reports to the Governor of New Mexico. It is located in the city center of Roswell, NMMI enrolls nearly 1,000 cadets at the junior college and high school levels each year. NMMI is the only state-supported military college located in the western United States and has many notable alumni who have served at senior levels in the military and private sector.
