Commencement

Congratulations to our graduating cadets! The celebration of your achievements at NMMI involves a variety of carefully planned events. Graduating cadets participating in commencement activities must attend all required rehearsals, inspections and ceremonies. If you do not plan to attend the graduation ceremony, please visit the Registrar’s Office prior to departing campus. Finish the semester strong!

Graduation Process

In order to participate in graduation ceremonies, cadets MUST APPLY. Below is an outline of the graduation process. To learn more about All cadets MUST APPLY to graduation ceremonies, if you choose to participate.Graduation is not an automatic process. Students must apply. See the following timeline to learn about the process.

Note: You must be in good financial and disciplinary standing with NMMI in order to receive your diploma.

  • Enroll and successfully complete the appropriate courses

    Meet with your advisor to create a class schedule that will enable you to graduate at end of term. It is highly recommended that you visit the Registrar’s Office for a graduation audit.

  • Visit the Registrar’s Office for a Graduation Audit

    We will catch any scheduling issues that may prevent graduation. Doing this before the end of the add/drop registration period will allow you to add a class (or two) that you could be lacking.

  • Apply to Graduate

    High school students will be notified when to apply.

    College students should visit the Registrar’s Office to obtain the application.

    Preferably, complete this step before the end of the add/drop registration period.

  • Add/Drop Period Ends

  • Mid-Term Exams/Grades

  • Mid-Term Grade Review by the Registrar’s Office

    The Registrar’s Office will review mid-term grades and notify students who are risk of not meeting degree requirements, based on mid-term grades.

    You will receive a mid-term progress report with your grades. Seek help, if necessary. Assistance is readily available during NSH and morning tutoring.

  • Complete standardized test requirement

    College Students: Complete the ETS Proficiency Profile assessment test (formerly ACT CAAP) during your final term.

    High School Students: Complete the ACT (or SAT/TOEFL in some cases), at some point, prior to graduation.

  • Final Exams/Grades

  • Final Grades Review & Certification of Graduates

    The Registrar’s Office will review final grades. Those who meet graduation requirements will be certified. Those who have applied for graduation and fall short will be notified.

  • Board of Regents Approval of Graduates

    Those who meet graduation requirements and those who are eligible to graduate via credit transfer will be taken to the Board of Regents for approval.

Cadet & Guest FAQs

Cadets will receive an email communication from the Dean’s and Registrar’s Office with graduation ceremony details. The information will also information about the process leading up to graduation, as well as criteria for participation.

If you have any unanswered questions after reading our FAQ, contact registrar@nmmi.edu or academicdean@nmmi.edu. Offices are open Monday-Friday 7:30 a.m. – 4:30 p.m.

Students

Graduation is not an automatic process. Cadets must review the graduation process and apply to participate in ceremonies – preferably prior to midterms. In order to participate and receive your diploma, you must be in good financial and disciplinary standing with NMMI. In cases where you fall short of meeting academic requirements, but are within the course limit to graduate via transfer of credits, your name will be taken to the Board of Regents as a “Transfer Graduate”. A complete list of graduation requirements may be found in the Academic Catalog for our High School Diploma, Associate in Arts degree or Associate in Science degree.

No. However, you are highly encouraged to attend. Be proud of this achievement.

The graduation ceremony is open to cadets who have met all academic requirements and have no outstanding disciplinary issues within the Corps of Cadets. As we get closer to end of term, check with your TLA to determine if you have any issues to resolve. Disciplinary issues, not including suspension, may result in you not being allowed to participate in the ceremony and issuing of your physical diploma. See the academic catalog for information regarding disciplinary suspension/dismissal just prior to graduation. If there are no holds (financial or disciplinary) on your diploma, you will receive it at the ceremony.

No. However, should restricted seating become necessary, an announcement will be made. Please check commencement.nmmi.edu regularly for any updates regarding possible seating limitations.

If there are no financial or disciplinary holds on your record, you will receive your diploma immediately after the ceremony. The diploma will be held until holds are cleared.

In the event that you do not participate, please visit the Registrar’s Office, prior to your departure to verify your mailing address. If there are no holds (financial or disciplinary) on your diploma, it will be mailed to your preferred mailing address shortly after graduation.

The name printed on your diploma will be the official name on record. This includes your first name, middle name, last name and suffix, if applicable. Accents, titles, etc., can be added to your diploma if you notify the Registrar’s Office in advance.

Graduation with Highest Honors (4.00-3.75)

Graduation with High Honors (3.74-3.50)

Graduation with Honors (3.49-3.25)

To request your transcript be sent to your next school, or schools you are considering, please stop by the Registrar’s Office before you depart campus. “End of Term” transcripts may be requested at any time. Once you depart campus, you will want to make transcript requests through our electronic ordering method on the website.

No. You must clear your financial hold in order to receive transcripts. You should clear your hold prior to departing campus. If you are unable to do so, please contact the business office to determine options. Once you are cleared, your transcript will be sent.

There are a number of businesses, including our cadet store, who sell diploma frames. Frames awarded to our valedictorian/salutatorian are made by Wordyisms. Our high school and college diplomas measure 8.5” x 11” (landscape).

Along with participating in the graduation activities, there are a variety of campus attractions, as well as attractions in the city of Roswell.

There are on-campus and off-campus parking lots. Special events signs should guide you to available guest parking. On the day of graduation, the closest available parking will be along Honor Avenue and along Main Street. There are also overflow lots adjacent to campus.
