BG Voris W. McBurnette Honored with Alferes Tiradentes medal – 250th Anniversary Edition
On July 29, 2025, Brigadier General Voris W.McBurnette, Superintendent and President of the New Mexico Military Institute (NMMI), was awarded the prestigious Alferes Tiradentes Medal – 250th Anniversary Edition by the Polícia Militar de Minas Gerais (PMMG).
This distinguished honor was presented by COL Sandro Vieira Corrêa, PMMG Diretor of Education, in recognition of BG McBurnette’s exemplary leadership, unwavering spirit of cooperation, and steadfast support for students from Colégio Tiradentes de Minas Gerais (CTPM). His contributions have significantly strengthened the partnership between NMMI and CTPM -PMMG, positively impacting the educational and personal development of young Brazilian cadets.
The Alferes Tiradentes Medal is the highest accolade bestowed by the Polícia Militar de Minas Gerais. Established by Decree No.29,774 on July 17, 1989, the medal pays tribute to Alferes Joaquim José da Silva Xavier (Tiradentes), a national hero in Brazil and a symbol of freedom and courage.
This special 250th Anniversary Edition commemorates the founding of PMMG and is reserved for individuals and institutions that have rendered outstanding service to the police force and its mission.
Through this award, the Policia Militar de Minas Gerais expresses its profound gratitude to BG McBurnette and the New Mexico Military Institute for their commitment to excellence and international collaboration.
