New Mexico Military Institute Service Academy Preparatory Program
(Based on the tremendous sucess of this year's program, we will once again be offering an ALEKS-based math refresher course to all sponsored preps! Stay tuned for details.)
NMMI participates as a receiving school for the service academy preparatory programs. The Association of Graduates and Alumni Associations from the Air Force Academy, Military Academy, and the Naval Academy sponsor qualified students to attend NMMI for one year and participate fully in both the academic programs and the Corps of Cadets. Additionally, the Admissions Department of the United States Merchant Marine Academy sponsor students to attend NMMI for a year prior to being appointed. Following a successful year at NMMI, these students receive appointments to the academies. On average, 60-70 young men and women participate in this program each year.
NMMI also enrolls a substantial number of cadets who are not sponsored by the service academies. These "free agents" or Self Preps participate in a one or two-year program that academically mirrors the schedule of the Sponsored Preps. Success in this program depends on many factors that include: academics, receiving a congressional nomination, medical qualifications by DoDMERB, standardized test scores (ACT/SAT), and the needs and desires of the service academy. Should an appointment not be offered, college credits taken at NMMI can be transferred to a four-year university to pursue a commission from another source.
NMMI CLASSES ARE CREDIT-BEARING COLLEGE COURSES. OVER 97% OF OUR FACULTY HAVE A MASTER'S DEGREE. OVER 20% HAVE A PhD IN THEIR FIELD.
