LAKE ARTHUR — The Lady Colts got an easy 51-12 victory over Lake Arthur Monday, with the best part of the game the fact that everyone saw time on the floor.
“It was a good game,” said coach Marisha Olesinski. “We played good. Everyone got to play, which I am very happy about. We were in control the whole game, and I’m very glad the girls who don’t get to play so much got to play tonight. It was a good game for us.”
Playing against the short-handed Panthers — who only had five girls on the floor — NMMI went up 20-4 in the first quarter and 30-10 at the half. Despite sitting most of the starters in the third quarter, the Lady Colts shut LAHS down 14-0 in the third to lead 44-10.
All 12 Lady Colts saw action, with eight players scoring. Demitra Ulibarri and Sierra Walker were top scorers with 12 points each. Elyssa Chino had eight and Grace Tompkins seven. Jaque Velo got 10 of the Panther’s 12 points — including a pair of 3-pointers, while Delilah Vela scored the final Lake Arthur basket.
The 2-2 Colts will have a tougher match Tuesday when they go back on the road, this time to Hondo (2-1.)
“Tomorrow will be a little tougher, so I’m glad that the girls who play a lot got to play less today, so they’ll be fresher and ready for tomorrow,” Olesinski said.
That game is set for 5:30 p.m.
