What is JROTC?
JROTC, Junior Reserve Officer’s Training Corps, is a program designed to encourage high school students to become better citizens. With an emphasis on leadership training and skills building, JROTC helps develop the “whole person” by including financial planning in the curriculum alongside wilderness survival.
JROTC also sponsors several cadet activities including Goss Rifles, the Color Guard, the High School Rifle Team, and the Recon/PT Team. NMMI Cadets who participate in the Recon/PT Team also participate in activities with local Boy Scout troops. In addition to this, the JROTC curriculum includes a challenging physical development component which includes rappelling and obstacle courses.
Although JROTC is based on military experience, cadet participation in the JROTC program does not necessitate military service. The most important aspect of the program to the instructors and administrators is giving students the tools to achieve excellence in all aspects of their lives, whether in business, secondary education, or any other career a cadet may choose.
