Grounds Services

This department has the responsibility for all landscaping and the upkeep of all areas of a 600 acre campus including sports fields, campus grounds, ropes course, obstacle course, Leadership Reaction Course, Fitness Factory, NMMI residences, tennis courts, parking lots and vacant lots. This effort also includes the maintenance, programming and modernization of all irrigations systems excluding the golf course. Under harsh conditions this department maintains NMMI’s extensive open spaces and collection of trees, flower beds, shrubbery, parking lots and snow removal of walkways.

Grounds Services responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Turf – Mowing, edging, leaf removal, fertilization, insect/disease control, irrigation, maintaining various irrigation systems, over-seeing, intramural, and athletic fields
  • Flower Beds – Clean-up, mulching, edging, weeding, watering, fertilization, planting, and insect/disease control
  • Pruning – All native and ornamental trees, shrubs and ground covers.  Duty performed both to remove dead or damaged branches and to retain shape
  • Snow Removal – Remove snow or ice from roads, walks, and parking areas
  • Exterior Maintenance – Clean sculptures, inspect campus for hazards, wash hard surfaces, statues, & benches
  • Equipment Maintenance – Performs maintenance on grounds equipment ensuring equipment is safe and operational
  • Parking & Road Maintenance – Responsible for  cleaning debris and snow, as well as patching for all parking lots and roadways
  • Rodent & pest control
