The New Mexico Military Institute Colt soccer team saw their season come to a close as they were defeated by the number one seed Sandia Prep Sun Devils 3-0 at Bernalillo Soccer Complex during the second round of the state tournament.
Sandia Prep scored one goal in the first half and two goals in the second half. The Sun Devils scored in the first five minutes of the game to take an early 1-0 lead. The Colts would not give up another goal until late in the second half where Sandia Prep would score two goals in the span of 10 minutes to give them the 3-0 victory and move on in the state tournament.
Head Colt soccer coach John Barbour said, “The guys gave everything they had out there today. Sandia Prep capitalized on their chances and we did not. That was the difference in the match.”
NMMI was the only higher seed to advance from the first round from 3A as the other favorites moved on from the first round.
The Colts end their season with a record of 7-9-1 (2-3-1) including the victory in Socorro in the first round of state.
