Cadet Constabulary Detail

The NMMI Constabulary Detail is a volunteer cadet organization that aids the NMMI Police Dept. with traffic control, crowd control, crime prevention, etc. The detail consists of up to 30 cadets who are interested in law enforcement as a career.

The Constabulary Detail was created as the Traffic Detail in 1962 by Chief Arthur Brosius. He also started annual visits to the Capitol and Law Enforcement Training Academy in Santa Fe and an annual banquet which is attended by area law enforcement and judicial personnel.

The “Patron Saints” of the NMMI Constabulary Detail are the Henry Pick and Sam Pick families. These two gentlemen and their wives have been hosting the Constabulary Detail on the annual trip to Santa Fe for over 40 years. The Picks, both alumni of NMMI, have excelled in business and politics. Henry Pick ran an extremely successful business in the Santa Fe area, and Sam Pick is the former mayor of Santa Fe. The Constabulary Detail appreciates the fine work these two former cadets have done on behalf of NMMI and the NMMI Police Department.

In recent years, the Constabulary Detail have had the honor of assisting with security and crowd control for visits by President George W. Bush, former President Gerald Ford, and Supreme Court Justice Sandra Day O’Conner. For those visits, these young people assisted with crowd control, parking and acted as extra eyes and ears for the security detachments for each of these distinguished people.
