The Bronco baseball team (17-13) opened up the weekend with a 15-0 victory over WCJAC foe Odessa College but dropped the second game of the doubleheader 12-6.
Eric Estrada had a strong outing on the mound for the Institute and did not allow a single run through his five innings of work.
Estrada allowed six hits, two walks, and one strikeout to bring his overall record to 4-1 on the season.
Broncos started their scoring in the first inning when Bobby Galindo hit a three-run home run to right centerfield. NMMI led 4-0 heading into the top of the second.
NMMI added five runs in the second inning thanks to Angel Colon, Cedric Reynaud, and Adam Abeyta, who each had an RBI in the inning.
The Institute had four players with multi-hits in the win over the Wranglers. Estevan De La O singled twice, Galindo hit a home run and single, Abeyta added two doubles and Colon notched two doubles and a single.
The Broncos finished with 13 hits in the game.
Even though both teams scored a lot of runs in game two, NMMI was unable to carry the momentum from the first game into the second as Odessa defeated the Broncos 12-6.
NMMI held an early lead in the first inning when Luis Rivera Melendez hit a two-run home run making the score 2-1 heading into the top of the second.
Parker Bateman was Game 2starting pitcher for the Broncos. He went four innings, allowing nine runs on ten hits and striking out two, but was tagged with the loss, bringing his overall record to 0-2.
The Institute racked up 12 hits in the second game. Adrian Arpero, Abeyta, and Rivera Melendez all managed multiple hits for Broncos, while Abeyta and Arpero each collected three hits.
Both teams will square off again tomorrow at the NMMI Ballpark beginning at 12 P.M. with another pair of games to complete a four-game series.
