ROTC – Early Commissioning Program The New Mexico Military Institute's Early Commissioning Program allows for graduates to become commissioned officers in the United States Army in two years, instead of the usual four. Newly
minted Second Lieutenant must still to go on to complete a bachelor's degree while assisting the Professor of Military Science at the four year
university he/she has transferred to and is a functioning leader at a local Army Reserve or National Guard unit. The program has major
financial incentives for students to receive their commissions early and serve as officers while still attending college and gaining service
time for promotions and retirement. While contracted in ROTC/ECP new lieutenants will not be deployed until completing a Bachelor’s Degree
and successful completion of advanced specialized training (Officer Basic Course). See details at: www.nmmi.edu/rotc
NMMI participates as a receiving school for US Service Academy Preparatory Programs. Service Academies sponsor students to attend NMMI for a year prior to being appointed. Following a successful year at NMMI, these students receive appointments to the academies.
NMMI also enrolls a substantial number of cadets who are not sponsored by the service academies. These "free agents" or Self Preps participate in a one or two-year program that academically mirrors the schedule of the Sponsored Preps.
Please read each statement carefully and initial in each box. Accepting these terms creates a legally binding contract between you and New Mexico Military Institute.
In making this application, I/we shall abide by the policies and provisions, and other such regulations as the Board of Regents and administrative officers may feel are in the best interest of the Cadets, including provisions of any medical care and treatment which in the opinion of its medical staff is necessary and proper.
Acceptance decisions are made without regard to disabilities and in accordance with state and federal law and are non-discriminatory. All cadets are required to participate in certain physical activities considered essential to the traditions of a military school and to the development of individual leadership skills and a sense of camaraderie as a member of the Corps of Cadets.
Physical Standards considered disqualifying for admission:
In addition to meeting reasonable standards of good health, applicants to the NMMI high school and junior college must demonstrate a pattern of good conduct, a willingness to accept responsibilities for their actions, and respect for others. Applicants must also meet academic, physical and English language competency standards as part of their admission, which may exclude students with specific disabilities. They must have exhibited the capacity to adjust to and work effectively in a closely supervised, highly disciplined and occasionally stressful environment, as well as the ability to live independently in a dormitory setting.
