At A Glance 

  Founded in 1891, the New Mexico Military Institute is a co-educational four year college preparatory high school and university parallel junior college, awarding an Associate of Arts and an Associate of Science Degree.  
 

  Since 1909, NMMI has been continuously  accredited by the North Central Association and the State of New Mexico Commission on Higher Education. [More Info]

 
    1,000 cadets, approximately evenly divided between high school (44.8%) and junior college (54.8), from 42 states and 9 foreign countries.

 

In the last academic year the Corps diversity was comprised of 5.7% Asian, 10.6% African-American, 49.8% Caucasian, 7.6% foreign, 23% Hispanic, 2.9% Native American, and .3% of unknown heritage.

 

Female cadets made up approximately 17.45% of the Corps during the last academic year.  [More Info]

A variety of scholarships are available at the high school and junior college levels totaling almost $1.8 million.  Federal financial aid is available at the college level only.  Each school year approximately 85 percent of cadets receive assistance ranging from $150 to $7,000.

NMMI graduates have distinguished themselves in the arts, the sciences, the professions, and in military to the nation.  Roughly, 15 percent of our graduates make the military a career. [More Info]

NMMI is a member of the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA), the Western States Football League, and the Western Junior College Conference.  Our interscholastic  teams participate at the State-level in New Mexico.  Men and women compete in sports that include: football, basketball, baseball, tennis, swimming, golf, and track and field.  Intramural sports are a big part of daily cadet life. Historically, over 90 percent of NMMI graduates go on to attend a 4-year college, including New Mexico University, New Mexico State University, University of Texas, Texas Tech University, Stanford, Vanderbilt, Purdue, Pepperdine, Harvard, Rice, and the US military service academies. [More Info]

NMMI participates as a receiving school for the service academy preparatory programs.  The Association of Graduates and Alumni Associations from the Air Force, US Military Academy, and the Naval Academy sponsor qualified students to attend NMMI for one year and participate fully in both the academic programs and the Corps of Cadets. Following a successful year at NMMI, these students receive appointments to the academies.  On average, 80 young men and women participate in this program each year.  Students may also "self-prep" for the academies at NMMI. The Institute’s Reserve Officer Training Candidate program offers a 2-year early commissioning program (upon graduation a cadet is commissioned a 2LT with the obligation to finish his or her bachelor degree within the next 36 months and be a drilling member of a National Guard or Reserve unit)  Annually, the Institute commissions over 35 cadets as 2nd Lieutenants in the US Army. The program is required for each year of secondary school   Cadets will be introduced to leadership ethics and fundamentals, military history, citizenship, rifle marksmanship, and various other subjects during the   academic year. [More Info]

Annually, the Corps of Cadets contributes approximately 20,000 hours of community service to the citizens of Roswell and Chaves County, New Mexico.
