  • Founded in 1891, the New Mexico Military Institute is a co-educational four year college preparatory high school and university parallel junior college, awarding an Associate of Arts and an Associate of Science Degree.

  • 1,000 cadets, approximately evenly divided between high school (48.2%) and junior college (51.8%), from 44 states and 16 foreign countries comprise the Corps of Cadets. In the last academic year the Corps diversity was comprised of: 3.5% Asian; 9.24% African American; 40.95% Caucasian; 20.97% Hispanic; 6.24% Hispanic Mix; 9.74% Foreign; 3.62% Native American; 1.87% Multi-ethnic; 3.78% Pacific Islander.

  • A variety of scholarships are available at the high school and junior college levels totaling almost $1.8 million. Federal financial aid is available at the college level only. Each school year approximately 85 percent of cadets receive assistance ranging from $150 to $7,000.

  • NMMI graduates have distinguished themselves in the arts, the sciences, the professions and in military service to the nation. Roughly 15 percent of our graduates make the military a career. [More Info]

  • NMMI is a member of the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA), the Western States Football League, and the Western Junior College Conference. Our interscholastic teams participate at the State-level in New Mexico. Men and women compete in sports that include football, basketball, baseball, tennis, swimming, golf, and track and field.   • Historically, over 90 percent of NMMI graduates go on to attend a 4-year college, including New Mexico University, New Mexico State University, University of Texas, Texas Tech University, Stanford, Vanderbilt, Purdue, Pepperdine, Harvard, Rice, and the US military service academies.   • NMMI participates as a receiving school for the nation's five service academy preparatory programs. The Associations of Graduates and Alumni Associations from the US Military Academy, US Naval Academy, US Air Force Academy, US Coast Guard Academy and US Merchant Marine Academy sponsor qualified students to attend NMMI for one year and participate fully in both the academic programs and the Corps of Cadets. Following a successful year at NMMI, these students receive appointments to the academies. On average, 80 young men and women participate in this program each year.   • The Institute’s Reserve Officer Training Corps program offers the US Army ROTC 2-year Early commissioning program. Upon graduation a cadet is commissioned a 2LT with the obligation to finish his or her bachelors degree within the next 36 months and be a drilling member of a National Guard or Reserve unit. Annually, the Institute commissions over 35 cadets as 2LTs in the US Army and has commissioned more than 3,000 since 1917. [More Info]

  • The Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps program is required for each year of secondary school. Cadets are introduced to leadership, ethics, military history, citizenship, rifle marksmanship, and various other subjects during the academic year. [More Info]

  • Annually, the Corps of Cadets contributes approximately 20,000 hours of community service to the citizens of Roswell and Chaves County, New Mexico.
