About Mailman

Delivered by Mailman

Mailman is a list management software package for managing electronic discussion groups and newsletter mailing lists. Mailman provides a web-based interface that enables subscribers to easily maintain their accounts and provides list administrators with an effective mass communications resource.

NMMI began using the Mailman Listserver in early 2007 with the creation of the Alumni E-news and Parent E-News mailing lists. Several more lists have been developed since that time and we hope to include many more options for communication with cadets, parents, alumni and friends of NMMI in the future.

Currently, most NMMI mailing lists are announcement lists that are used so that a department can send announcements to a group of people.

Some common terms and their definitions you may find helpful when navigating this site include:

Post: A message sent to a mailing list

Members or Subscribers: People who are a part of an electronic mailing list

List Administrators: The people in charge of maintaining a list(s). Some lists have multiple administrators.

Moderators: People in charge of reading posts and deciding if they should be sent to all subscribers.

Site Administrators: The people who maintain Mailman.

Listserver: Software that manages mailing lists.
