Laptop Lease Program --- SY 2008-2009
- Who can participate?
- Students with unique needs are eligible for the laptop lease
program. This includes students in the academy prep programs,
athletes on scholarship, and selected financial need students.
- Who determines participation?
- Academy prep students – Academy Prep Career Center Director.
- AGA athletes – Athletic Director, Deputy Supt. for Business.
- Financial Need – Director of Financial Aid.
- What is included in the system?
- A Dell laptop with at least 512 MB memory, 1.6GHz Pentium M730, 14.1 inch XGA, network card, 60 GH hard drive, Windows XP Pro, Office 2003, CD
ROM, warranty service, nylon carrying case, antivirus, and anti-spyware
software.
- What if there are problems with the laptop?
- Hardware support for the leased laptops will be provided by the
computer technicians in Information Services.
- A few of the laptops will be held in reserve so that cadets may
“borrow” a reserve laptop during those periods while the leased
machine is under repair.
- In the event of serious software problems the standard procedure
will be to rebuild the machine’s hard disk to its issue state, a
serious problem being defined as requiring more than ten minutes to
diagnose.
- What is the cost?
- The cost of the yearly lease will be charged as a non-returnable
fee per semester to affected cadets. NMMI expects to recover the
cost of the program. Currently, the cost is $200 a semester.
- Cadets will be responsible for the purchase of expendable supplies
such as removable disks, etc.
- The cadet or cadet’s parents must sign a lease contract
document. This document is collected by Information Services at
the time of issue, and stored in the Business Office.
- Where are the machines distributed?
- Information Services (IS) will distribute the machines and collect
the signed lease.
- IS will also check-in laptops when cadets leave the Institute for
any reason and at the end of each semester. At that time the
laptop will be examined to assure it is in working condition and that
all parts have been returned. Damaged or missing parts will be
charged to the cadet and the hard disk rebuilt.
