Student Right to Know

Student Right to Know (SRTK)- What it is

The Student-Right-to-Know and Campus Security Act of 1990 (Public Law 101-542) otherwise known as Student Right to Know (SRTK) creates a federal mandate for NMMI to make available its completion and transfer rates to all current and perspective students.

Beginning in the Fall of 2000, a cohort of degree and transfer seeking first-time, full-time students in college were tracked over a three-year period. Completion rates are calculated for those students from the 2000 cohort that were degreed within 3 years from their start at NMMI or had completed at least 56 transferable units with a GPA of 2.0 or better and are therefore "transfer-prepared".

Transfer rates are calculated for those students from the 2000 cohort, that left NMMI before becoming "transfer prepared" or obtaining 56 transferable units, and have transferred to another post secondary institution from Fall 2000 to Fall 2003.

SRTK Measurement 1: Completion Rate for 2003: 39%

SRTK Measurement 2: Transfer Rate for 2003: 12%

* Note: these measurements may not accurately reflect the college picture at NMMI because of : (1) The international character of NMMI's student population (makes tracking more difficult), (2) Changing the Information Systems at NMMI, and (3) Human Error and, (4) Data Characteristics such as the percentage of the cohort as part of the  cadet population..
