NMMI's Commandant of Cadets is

Brigadier General Richard V. Geraci, US Army, Retired,

The Commandant of Cadets, New Mexico Military Institute, exercises command supervision and mentorship over the Corps of Cadets and the Commandant's Staff.  The Commandant responsibilities are to:

• Provide for the safety, health and welfare, physical readiness, accountability, mentorship and discipline of the Corps of Cadets;

• Maintain a positive leadership environment in which each cadet can achieve academic excellence and physical readiness while living the Cadet Honor Code;

• Oversee housing, cadet activities, military training within the Corps and many aspects of daily cadet life; and

• Provide for the professional development of all Commandant Staff members.   

Under the supervision of the Commandant, a cadet Regimental Commander, supported by a Cadet Chain of Command, operating within an US Army mounted cavalry regimental structure, commands the Corps of Cadets.
