NMMI Golf Sixth at
State Tournament

Socorro, NM – The New
Mexico Military Institute Colt golf team earned a sixth place finish at
the NMAA 3A Boys State Golf Championships. The Colts shot a two round
total 735 after a first round 367 and a second round 368 at the New
Mexico Tech University golf course.
Dennis Gonzales, a
senior from Farmington, New Mexico, led the Colts with a twentieth place
finish. He shot an 82 and a 91 for a two-round score of 173,
twenty-nine over par.
Sophomore Reid
Sharpe, also a Farmington native, shot a forty-two over 186 to place him
in the twenty-ninth spot after shooting a 98 and 88. His teammate
Quenby Johnson followed him with a two-round total 188. He shot a first
round 90 and second round 98.
Joseph Kim was plus
fifty-four for the tournament after shooting a 107 in the first round
and then came back with a solid 91 in round two.
Roswell native Jeremy
Harvard rounded out the field for NMMI. He was fifty-seven over par
while shooting a 201. Harvard shot a 97 in the first round and a 104 in
round two.
The team final
results were as follows: (1) Lovington 650, (2) Portales 665, (3) St.
Michael’s 693, (4) Ruidoso 696, (5) Sandia Prep 699,
(6) NMMI 735
