Colts Win Double-OT Thriller
12/7/07
Roswell, NM – After scoring only three points in the first quarter
of Friday’s game against Cobre High School, the Colts knew
they were going to have to battle to have a chance to win
the game. A consistent comeback led to a double-overtime
victory as the Colts wound up downing the Indians 58-49.
The Colts
were sluggish following a 76-41 loss to Socorro earlier in
the week. The three points scored in the first quarter were
a season low, but the Colts found themselves down by only
five points. NMMI’s sixth-man, Michael Chacon started the
comeback by scoring four points in the second quarter.
As the
game progress, the Colts inched closer and closer to an even
score. Point guard Wade Thomas was 10 of 12 from the
charity stripe in the fourth quarter and two overtimes. He
finished the game with a team-high 22 points.
With the
score tied at 44-44 at the end of regulation, the Colts
scored 14 points to Cobre’s 5 in the overtime periods,
giving them the 58-49 victory.
Saturday’s game against Cloudcroft did not go as well. The
Colts let a five-point half time lead slip away as the Bears
adjusted in the second half to overtake NMMI 46-40. Senior
post, Eduardo Martinez led the team with 14 points and 11
rebounds. Junior guard Harvey Johnson had his best game of
the season, scoring 8 points while making all four of his
shots.
