Colts Baseball Wins St. Mike's Tourney

Santa Fe, NM -- After
dropping their first game at the St. Michael’s baseball tournament to
Santa Fe Capital 7-3, the Colt baseball team bounced back to win their
next two games.
This marks the second
tournament in a row that the Colts lost their opening round game, only
to comeback and when their next two games.
The Colts offense was
sluggish in the first round loss to Capital. The Colts managed only
three runs after letting two bases loaded opportunities slip away.
NMMI bounced back in
the second round with a 13-2 drubbing of Laguna Acoma. Pitcher Gordon
Isbell picked up the win as Jay Giblin paced the Colts with three hits.
Eric Olson and Mike Gustafson knocked in two runs each in the winning
effort.
Je’mari James stole the
spotlight in game three with his performance at the plate and on the
mound.
With the game tied at
2-2, James stepped up and deposited a solo home run over the right field
fence, giving the Colts a 3-2 lead. He would later come in to pitch in
the seventh inning where he would pick up the save for the Colts.
The
Colts slipped by the Class 4A foe 6-4. The Colts improve to 5-2 on the
season. They will be hosting the NMMI-Sertoma Colt Classic this coming
weekend.
