KENNETH PITTMAN

Assistant Coach, 5th season

Office Phone: (575) 624-8275

Email: coachkennypittman@gmail.com

Kenny Pittman is an Artesia native who currently teaches health at Goddard High School and is an assistant coach in both football and baseball at NMMI.

He took the assistant positions in the fall of 2011, and, while serving as the assistant football/baseball coach at Goddard from 1995-2011, he was also the assistant baseball coach for the Broncos baseball team in 2000-2002.

Prior to that, Pittman was an assistant coach for football at Levelland High School (Texas); Stanton HS (Texas); Hobbs; Eunice; and Portales. He was the head baseball coach at Levelland from 1988-1995 and at Eunice from 1985-86 and assistant baseball coach Levelland, Hobbs and Portales.

He coached football teams to two state championships; four state championship appearances; and 21 playoff appearances. He also coached an All-South All-Star game.

In baseball, he had four state semifinal appearances and 19 playoff appearances. He coached the 1986 USA Today High School Pitcher of the Week. (Kevin Phillips, Eunice vs. Denver City, 10-0 no hitter with 20 strikeouts.

He won the 2016 Fellowship of Christian Athletes Distinguished Service Award for New Mexico and the 1996 FCA Coach of the Year for New Mexico.

Pittman is proud of his time at the Institute, both as a coach and parent.

“We have been associated with NMMI for over 15 years,” he said. “All of my children have attended school at NMMI, either high school or junior college with no regrets. It was an easy choice but a tough road for my family, with great rewards at the end of the journey. I have coached for 35 years throughout Texas and New Mexico and what I like about coaching at NMMI is that it is real coaching. We don’t get the same kids from year to year so every year it’s starting over with kids, sometimes who have never played the game and then develop them into a team.”

Pittman’s family includes his wife Judy, an attorney/domestic violence commissioner; daughter Laurie, NMMI-JC ‘03, Flight Nurse/Director of NMMI Infirmary; son, Capt. Sam Spencer- Pittman, NMMI-HS ‘05/NMMI-JC ‘07/The Citadel ’10, U.S. Army; daughter McKaylee, NMMI-HS ‘11/NMMI-JC ’13/ECP/2nd Lt. U.S. Army Norwich University, 2016; son Satchel, NMMI-HS, 2016; and their dog, Ranger
