All-Conference and All-Region Teams Announced 11/29/06 Roswell, NM -- Post season awards were announced four Broncos were recognized for their efforts. Jovana Lubura wrapped up her NMMI career with another All-Region and All-Conference performance. To top things off, she also earned All-Tournament honors at the Region V West Tournament. Angie Varnum was also selected to the All-Region and All-Conference teams. Tijana Knezevic and Nicole Vanderploeg earned Honorable Mentio All-Conference honors.
Broncos Fall to FPC in Region V Tournament Clarendon, TX -- The Bronco volleyball team concluded their season with a 3-0 loss to sixth ranked Frank Phillips College in the opening round of the NJCAA Region V West Volleyball Tournament. FPC took all three games from NMMI 30-16, 30-15 and 30-11. FPC would eventually go on to beat Midland in three games to advance to the NJCAA National Tournament. The Broncos finished their season with a record of 12-26 under first year Head Coach Shelby Smith.
Broncos Earn a Spot in Region V West Tournament Roswell, NM -- The Broncos secured a spot in the Region V West Volleyball Tournament with a conference win over Western Texas College on Wednesday. NMMI and Clarendon will play for the 3rd and 4th seed on Wednesday. If the Broncos win, they will have the 3rd seed and will take on Midland College in the first round of the tournament. On Saturday, the Broncos needed five games to beat Otero Junior College. They were down 2-1 before winning the last two games to take the match 3-2. Jovana Lubura led the Broncos with 18 kills while Lina Lucero added 30 assists.
Broncos Win Two in Front of Home Crowd Roswell, NM -- The Bronco volleyball team picked up two non-conference wins over the weekend by beating Trinidad State Junior College and the United States Air Force Academy Prep School. On Friday, the Broncos beat TSJC 3-1. Jovana Lubura led the Broncos with 14 kills. On Saturday, the Broncos beat Air Force Prep 3-0. They resume conference play on Wednesday when they take on Midland College.
Varnum Leads Broncos Over Western Texas Roswell, NM -- Angie Varnum had one of her best games as a Bronco as she led NMMI to their first conference win over Western Texas College. NMMI came into the match needing a win to maintain their chance at a post season berth. Varnum's strong play at the net overpowered Western Texas. She finished the match with 15 kills. The Broncos won in four games, 30-19, 26-30, 30-10, 30-21. With the win, the Broncos improve to 7-13 overall and 1-2 in conference.
Broncos Go 1-3 in Garden City Tournament 9/16/06 Garden City, KS -- The Broncos let a couple of matches slip away over the weekend in the Garden City Community College Tournament. They opened the tournament with win over Vernon College, 30-24, 22-30, 30-28, 30-23. In the second game on Friday they were beaten in three games to Northeastern 15-30, 23-30, 27-30. On the second day of the tournament they dropped their first match to Cowley County 32-34, 30-24, 21-30, 9-30. In the final match of the tournament, the Broncos won the first two games against nationally ranked Colby Community College. They were unsuccessful in holding on to the lead and lost in five games, 30-23, 30-23, 27-30, 21-30, 11-15. The Broncos hope to turn things around on Wednesday when they take on WJCAC foe Western Texas College.
Broncos Open the Season 2-2 Lubura earns All-Tournament Honors Liberal, KS -- The Bronco volleyball team opened the 2006 season with a 2-2 showing at the Seward County Community College Kickoff Classic over the weekend. In their first match of the season, the Broncos fell to Garden City C.C. 3-0. They were able to bounce back and knock off host school Seward County C.C. 3-1. On Saturday, the Broncos overpowered Cisco J.C. 3-0. Later that day, the Broncos dropped their final match to tournament champion Frank Phillips College 3-0. Sophomore outside hitter Jovana Lubura earned All-Tournament honors for her efforts.
