Skip Gooch attended Frank Phillips College in Borger, Texas for one year after graduating from Borger High School before going into the U.S. Army.  Gooch spent six years in the army as a Chief Warrant Officer II and served two tours in Vietnam.  As a Target Acquisition LRRP, Gooch received three Army Commendation Medals and a Bronze Star.  Both tours were served with the XXIV Corp Artillery along the DMZ.  After leaving Vietnam, Gooch was assigned to the XVIII Airborne Corp at Fort Bragg, N.C. until his discharge.   

After his military service, Gooch worked 35 years with Southwestern Public Service (now Xcel Energy), and retired as the New Mexico Electronics and Relay Supervisor.  Gooch earned degrees in Electronic Technology and Business Administration from Eastern New Mexico University.

In addition, Gooch has enjoyed playing golf for over forty years and coached young people in several sports and served as the head instructor for the New Mexico Game and Fish Hunter Education program in Roswell for 20 years.
