1-2 at T-Bird Classic

Hobbs, NM – The
Broncos opened the 2008-08 basketball campaign with a 1-2 showing at the
New Mexico Junior College Thunderbird Classic.
In their first game of
the season, the Broncos took on Cochise College from Arizona. The
Broncos found themselves down early in the first half after committing
17 turnovers. After some second half adjustments, the Broncos mounted a
solid comeback only to fall short 72-69. Eric Stewart led the team with
21 points. Brad Rogers pulled in 7 rebounds.
The Broncos faced the
Midland Heat on the second day of the tournament. After taking a 44-35
halftime lead, the Broncos found themselves down 51-50 early in the
second half. The deficit would not last long as sophomore Israel
Guardado controlled the paint, scoring a career high 18 points as he led
the Broncos to a 95-85 victory.
In the third and final
game, the Broncos took on host New Mexico Junior College. The hot
shooting T-Birds handed the Broncos an 84-58 loss.
Freshman guard Eric
Stewart was named to the all-tournament team as he averaged 17.6 points
per game.
The Broncos will host
Lubbock Christian University JV in their home opener in Cahoon Armory on
Tuesday. Tip off is set for 7:30 pm.
