Kaerwer's Blast Propels NMMI Past Wayland Baptist
2/21/07
Roswell, NM – The
Broncos took two games from the Wayland Baptist University JV
Pioneers 10-9 and 10-0 on Wednesday. The Broncos needed a late
inning comeback to take game one and got a dominating performance on
the mound in the second game to complete the sweep.
In game one, the Broncos found
themselves down by 6 runs in the fourth inning before scratching for
2 runs in the 4th and 5th innings and another in the bottom of the
seventh to tie the game at 9-9. In extra innings, Sean Kaerwer
tripled to deep left-center field and then when the relay throw went
errant, he raced home for the winning score.
Offensively for the Broncos, Mike
Sloback and Carlos Marrujo each had three hits in the game.
Dominique Vega stopped the bleeding for the Broncos in the third
inning when he came on in relief and pitched 3 innings allowing only
one run. Ismael Solis picked up the win in game one as he
finished the game with three innings of one-hit, scoreless ball.
In game two, Davis Desjarlais
overpowered WBU, facing one batter over the minimum in 5 innings of
work. He held the Pioneers to only one hit and provided the
Broncos with their second shutout of the season.
The Broncos scored 10 runs on 8 hits
and took advantage of 6 WBU walks. Marrujo, Desjarlais and
Jesus Flores each had two hits in the game.
The Broncos improve to 5-10 on the
season with a doubleheader against McMurry University JV scheduled
for Tuesday. WJCAC play will begin on March 2nd when Midland
College comes to Roswell for a 4-game series.
