Midland Sweeps Series from NMMI

Mexico Military Institute was swept in their opening series of
Western Junior College Athletic Conference action by Midland College
10-0, 4-3, 11-0 and 15-2.
In game one, the
Chaps pounded out ten runs on seven hits, scoring all ten of their
runs in the first three innings of the game. Cole Stephens earned
the win for Midland while pitching five complete innings allowing
only six hits and no runs. Sergio Marquez took the loss for NMMI,
giving up ten runs on six hits in two and two-thirds innings of
work.
Midland’s Aaron
Powell led the Chaps with three runs batted in on two hits. Sean
Kaerwer led NMMI with two of the Broncos six hits.
Game two saw a
pitching duel between NMMI’s Ismael Solis and Midland’s Barry
Keiffer. Solis pitched seven and two-thirds innings before giving
up the tying run to Midland in the top of the eighth inning.
Keiffer was equally has dominant as he held NMMI to two runs over
seven innings.
Midland was able
to go ahead 3-2 in the eight when a Jamie Armendariz scored on a
NMMI wild pitch. Midland was able to push another run across to
give them the 4-2 lead.
In the bottom of
the ninth, NMMI was able to get to within one when Sean Kaerwer
scored on a Karl Johnson fielder’s choice. Midland’s Kyle Maynor
came on to strike out Mike Sloback to end the game.
