Marquez
Shuts Down Eastern Arizona

Thatcher, AZ -- The
Broncos return trip to Arizona resulted in another 1-3 showing.
Freshman left-handed pitcher, Sergio Marquez was dominant on the mound
for a second consecutive game as he pitched the Broncos to a 1-0 victory
in the third game of the series.
Eastern Arizona took the first game of the
series 9-1 while limiting the Broncos to just 3 hits. In game two,
the Broncos found themselves down 6-0 in the top of the fourth.
They answered with 10 runs on 10 hits. With the game tied in the
seventh inning, Robert Nordorf scored the go ahead run, giving the
Broncos the 11-10 lead. EAC answered with a run in their half of
the inning. Both teams traded runs in the eighth inning as well
but it was EAC that was able to put a run on the board in the bottom of
the ninth to take the game 13-12.
In game three, Marquez pitched a complete
game four-hitter as he shutout EAC 1-0. In seven innings he
totaled 6 strikeouts while only walking one batter. Mike Sloback
scored the only run of the game for NMMI when Jesus Flores singled in
the sixth to break to nothing-nothing tie. Marquez also went 2-3
at the plate.
In a combined effort, Andrew Macias and
Gabe Arellano held EAC to just 3 runs, but the Bronco offense was unable
to put any runs on the board as EAC took game three, 3-0.
The Broncos record stands at 2-6 on the
season with one more trip the Arizona on the schedule. They will
play a three-game series in Douglas, AZ against Cochise College.
