4/21/07
Snyder, TX -- Western Texas College won the four
game series with the NMMI Bronco baseball team by a margin of
five runs. In a very close series, the Broncos dropped the
conference match-up 2-0, 5-4, 3-2 and 4-3.
In game one, sophomore right hander Ismael Solis
gave another solid performance in the losing effort. In
six innings pitched, Solis allowed only two runs on five hits.
The Broncos were unable to provide him with any run support as
they fell 2-0.
Game two was the first of three consecutive
one-run losses for the Broncos. Ed Vidales performed well
in his first start of the season. He allowed three runs in
five innings of work. Down 4-3 in the top of the ninth
inning, the Broncos rallied to tie the score when Clay Bradford
crossed home on a Brian Bustos single. WTC answered with a
score if their own in the bottom of the ninth to secure the game
5-4.
Gabe Arellano had another impressive showing on
the mound as he pitched five and two-thirds innings, giving up
only two runs. The Broncos lost this one in extra innings
when WTC scored in the bottom of the eighth to win it 3-2.
Gabriel Garza started his first game in two years
after recovering from arm surgery. In four innings of
work, he gave up four runs on five hits. The Broncos
scored three runs in the first inning, but that was all as they
fell 4-3.
As the season winds down, the Broncos record sits
at 12-33 overall and 3-21 in the WJCAC. The Broncos return
home to take on Clarendon College in a four-game series starting
at noon on Friday.
