Bronco Baseball Joins Reading Program with Local Students
10/30/06
Roswell,
NM -- The New Mexico Military Institute Bronco baseball team has
teamed up to help a class of second grade students at Washington
Avenue Elementary in their efforts to learn to read.
Twenty-one of the Institute's college baseball players are
volunteering each Thursday to help these students read.
Washington Avenue
has been conducting the HOST program for fourteen years now and
guided by Kimberly Kunko. The HOST program is designed to have
members of the community mentor these young students in the area of
reading.
This year, the
Broncos will be mentoring twenty-seven young students. Kunko
adds, "The HOST program is a system that facilitates the building of
relationships between the students and the cadets. We hope
that these relationships can grow from their time reading together
to much more."
