New Fitness Facilities on the Horizon

New Mexico Military Institute’s Associate Director of Health, Physical Education and Recreation/Athletics, Brad Brimhall has been tasked with developing a fitness regime that would have the cadets in world class shape.  Brimhall has begun the process of obtaining the tools to achieve this goal.  A new fitness facility, tabbed “The Fitness Factory” was designed along with the purchase new state-of-the-art training equipment.  Together, the Fitness Factory and the new strength training equipment will provide the cadets with excellent training tools which will help them reach their physical fitness goals.

The Fitness Factory is a large outdoor, all-encompassing training facility.  The facility was designed with a circuit type training system in mind.  The Fitness Factory will cover a broad range of training exercises intended to improve agility, endurance, power and speed.  Brimhall added, “The Fitness Factory will provide a volume of quality training that is unparallel to anything that is currently out there.”

Some of the features of the Fitness Factory include:

·          40’ x 15’ sand pit for sprinting, jumping and agility drills

·          3% incline/decline sprint hill for over speed resistance

           training

·          56 pull-up stations with individual barbells

·          9 – 12’ plyometric jumping boxes

·          60’ x 12’ sand pit for jumping drills

·          Large agility drill area

·          90’ x 9’ horizontal throw medicine ball wall

·          20’ x 9’ vertical throw medicine ball station

·          2 drinking water stations

·          Shaded pavilion

In addition to the Fitness Factory, the weight rooms located in Cahoon Armory and Godfrey Athletic Center have received a complete overhaul.  The Cahoon Armory weight training facility is now outfitted with ten, half-rack stations with adjustable benches.  Each station includes an 8’ x 6’ Olympic platform, an adjustable set of dumbbells and a stability ball.

The Godfrey Athletic Center now has three, full-rack stations with adjustable benches, two treadmills, two elliptical trainers, two rowing machines and two exercise bikes.  The training facility is also outfitted with two Free-Motion machines, which is the top machine on the market today.

“The new additions to the Cahoon weight room and the Godfrey Athletic Center allow the cadets to train in a manner that enhances all aspects of their life while increasing their overall quality of life.”

With the new Corps physical training program already in place, we should expect to see solid improvements in the conditioning of each and every cadet.  With the right tools in the toolbox, each cadet will be able to reach their physical fitness goal.
