Lieutenant Colonel Alvarado has served as the Criminal Justice Department Chair since 1998 and has been associated with New Mexico Military Institute for over 13 years. He is the recipient of numerous military decorations and awards; LTC Alvarado was decorated for heroism and valorous actions in combat on 3 separate occasions while serving with the 101st Airborne (Air Assault) Division. His individual awards include the Bronze Star, 22 Air Medals and 5 Meritorious Medals; he is also the recipient of the Ranger Tab (Winter), Parachutist Badge, and Air Crewmember Badge. LTC Alvarado lived in Germany for almost 8 years, extensively traveling throughout Western Europe. He spent almost an entire year involved in direct combat helicopter operations (to include helicopter aerial support of US special operations teams – Command Control North) in the Vietnam/Laotian military theater. He was directly involved with the helicopter support of South Vietnamese fighting ground units in the Lam Son 719 invasion of Laos. He was recognized as Who’s Who in Teaching and Chaves County Teacher of Character Recognition while at NMMI and is the recipient of the New Mexico’s Council of English Student Teacher of the Year award. LTC Alvarado is fluent in Spanish. |
