Social Science Learning Objectives

Upon graduation from NMMI, a cadet* will be able to:

1)      Demonstrate knowledge of the struggle for democracy at the local, state, and national, and international levels.

 

2)      Explain the contributions of various ethnic and racial entities in creating the social mosaic of a diverse multicultural nation.

 

3)      Show evidence of improving study skills in note taking, writing papers, and oral presentations.

 

4)      Identify the basic themes and concepts in the social sciences (history, political science, philosophy, geography, sociology, psychology, and anthropology).

 

5)      Show evidence of analytical and critical thinking concerning complex ideas.

 

6)      Discuss the dynamic relationship between continuity and change. 

 

7)      Use changing technology such as computer-based search engines in research.

 

8)      Apply ideas, theories, and conflicting explanations in explaining social phenomenon.

 

9)      Choose substantive research topics based on the sense of curiosity and interest on the part of the student. 

 

*This presumes that a cadet will have completed course work in this field.
