Criminal Justice Department Learning Objectives

Upon graduation from NMMI, a cadet* will be able to:

1)    define and use the knowledge of basic criminal justice terms and vocabulary 

2)    demonstrate adequate academic skills in listening, note taking, oral presentation, writing and team work.

3)    explain the implications of changing technology such as the Internet, electronic commerce, and the impact computers have on society.

4)    use current technologies for research, individualized learning, and preparation of assignments.

5)    demonstrate a knowledge of micro and macro criminal justice issues affecting the American Criminal Justice System.

6)    explain the differences and similarities within the American Criminal Justice System and compare it to international criminal justice systems.

7)    exhibit analytical and critical thinking skills through practical exercises and case study applications.

8)    identify the fundamental sequence of events in the criminal justice system to include the critical points in the decision making process.

9)    explain the inter-connectivity of the various law enforcement agencies within the American Criminal Justice System.

10)   define and defend the role of ethics and social responsibility expected of the individuals associated with the various elements and echelons of the American Criminal Justice System.

*This presumes that a cadet will have completed course work in this field.
