I suppose I am a teacher that expects everyone's best in class about 95% of the time with a standard
deviation of 5%. I realize that students' best efforts are not equal. I get impatient with those that
are content to achieve mediocre and just pass. I'm patient with those that struggle to become students
that want to learn. I'm patient in the morning before school and during office hours. Those would be
good times to experience my good nature first hand. I'm very impatient the last week of a grading period
with those students that have mastered procrastination and major in hind-sight. I'm impatient when my
classes are interrupted. I want you to have the best when you are in my class. The best is not synonymous
with fun, necessarily. Expect to work and contribute.
The goal is for my students to become independent learners and thinkers. Chemistry, biology, and physics
may never be used professionally but they can be used as tools to develop thinking skills and independence.
---And chemistry, biology and physics will always be imposed on you whether you choose to acknowledge their
existence or not. Gravity keeps your feet on the ground. Your brain keeps your head in the clouds. Oxygen
provides the molecule to oxidize the food you eat so you can talk in class. You're alive!
