Holly Huber’s
career in art began at New Mexico Military Institute in 1978.
She went on to earn degrees in Occupational Studies and
Communication, Art, History and Art Education.
She has both worked and taught in the field of art and graphic
design for some 15 years. She
taught on the college level at Eastern New Mexico University in
Portales, NM and Minot State University in Minot, ND and on the
secondary school level at Pickens Technical School in Denver, CO.
She also served as Art Director for the Gillette News-Record
in Gillette, WY, earning the newspaper national recognition for
superior layout and design in advertising.
A published illustrator, Huber’s 81 illustrations
in The Santa Fe Tarot Deck received high commendations both
nationally and internationally.
Produced in three languages, both the deck and book are now in
their second printing. Continuing
her professional development in the illustration/publishing world,
she is currently marketing a series of children’s books and fantasy
illustrations. She is
also marketing a Navajo-based board game she conceptualized and
designed.
Huber plans to continue her education, having earned
numerous hours beyond her Master’s Degree and working toward a PhD
in Art Education. She
also plans to continue her work in fine art and produced a one-person show
in Portales, NM, in November, 1999.
Her fine art presently can be found in many private homes both
nationally and internationally.
While teaching graphic design at both ENMU and MSU,
Huber implemented student-run graphic design agencies and intern
programs and was highly active in job placement.
She hopes to establish such a program at NMMI.
Toward that end, she’s initiated an Art Club and a virtual
gallery of student artwork. She
also serves on NMMI’s Curriculum Committee and Technology Committee
and is a sponsor for both The Maverick and the Drama Club.
