ISCT: Laptop Lease Program

Who can participate?

Students with unique needs are eligible for the laptop lease program. This includes athletes on scholarship, selected financial need students, and students in the academy prep programs.

Who determines participation?

  • AGA athletes – Athletic Director, Deputy Supt. for Business, Director of Financial Aid.
  • Financial Need – Director of Financial Aid.
  • Academy prep students – Academy Prep Career Center Director.

What is included in the system?

A Dell laptop with a minimum of 2GB of memory, 1.6GHz Pentium M730, 14.1 inch XGA, network card, 60 GH hard drive, Windows XP Pro, Office 2007, CD ROM, warranty service, carrying case, Antivirus/Anti-Spyware software, and anti-theft/recovery software.

What to do if there are problems with the laptop?

Hardware support for the leased laptops will be provided by the Dell warranty. All maintenance and repairs on laptops will be taken care of by Information Systems, Communications, and Technologies (ISCT) staff.

A few of the laptops will be held in reserve so that cadets may “borrow” a reserve laptop during those periods while the leased machine is under repair.

In the event of serious software problems the standard procedure will be to rebuild the machine’s hard disk to its issue state, a serious problem being defined as requiring more than ten minutes diagnosing.

What is the cost?

The cost of the yearly lease will be charged as a non-returnable fee per semester to affected cadets. NMMI expects to recover the cost of the program. Currently, the cost is $200 a semester.

Cadets will be responsible for the purchase of expendable supplies such as removable disks, etc.

The cadet or cadet’s parents must sign a lease contract document. This document is collected by ISCT at the time of issue, and stored in the Business Office.

Where are the machines distributed?

ISCT will distribute the machines and collect the signed lease.

ISCT will also check-in laptops when cadets leave the Institute for any reason and at the end of each semester. At that time the laptop will be examined to assure it is in working condition and that all parts have been returned. Damaged or missing parts will be charged to the cadet and the hard disk rebuilt.
